WORKER'S
COMPENSATION
PennAg offers a Workers' Compensation Safety Incentive Program
underwritten by The PMA Group. A "Members Only" program, this
membership service returns unused premium to participants
as dividends.
Key to the success of this program are claims management
and loss control procedures that follow individual claims
to eliminate the possibility of abuse.
Since the inception of the membership service in 1978, participants
have received over $15 million in dividends (36.6% of actual
premium).

At the
2005 Annual PennAg Convention,
Mario Spina of the PMA Group presented past PennAg president
John Flannigan with an award honoring PennAg's Worker's
Compensation Program, which has returned to its participating
members more than $15 million in the
past 24 years.

GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS
PennAg membership
provides members with access to the executive and legislative
branches of state government through a strong governmental affairs
program. PennAg's stature at the capitol has increased considerably
in recent years and is looked to for input and guidance by decision-makers
on issues impacting agriculture and agribusiness.
LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITY
Several members of the PennAg staff are registered lobbyists and represent agribusiness interests in the legislature.
EXECUTIVE BRANCH ACTIVITY
PennAg monitors the activities of Commonwealth agencies with
programs which impact PennAg members. PennAg is regularly represented
at meetings of the Animal Health and Diagnostic Commission, Nutrient
Management Advisory Board, State Conservation Commission, Pesticide
Advisory Board, Noxious Weed Task Force, DEP Ag Advisory Board,
Environmental Quality Board and numerous other ad hoc committees.
PennAg also frequently meetings with cabinet officers to request
attention to specific areas requiring attention of executive branch
agencies.
COUNCIL SUPPORT
All PennAg members are eligible for membership in one or more
of its seven operating Councils. PennAg provides staff support
to these autonomous, self-governing units and coordinates their
activities with those of the parent PennAg organization.
POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE
PennAg maintains a properly registered and maintained political
action committee entitled PennAg PAC. All PennAg members are eligible
to participate in PAC fundraising. Proceeds from the PAC are utilized
to support legislators who are supportive of agriculture and agribusiness
activities.
PROBLEM RESOLUTION
PennAg membership provides members access to other members who
have experienced similar problems. Members contact PennAg, describe
their problem and PennAg assists them by providing the names of
other members who have successfully addressed a similar problem.
LIAISON WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS
PennAg has an established relationship with most of the organizations
that represent different segments of Pennsylvania agriculture.
PennAg is an active participant in the council of farm organizations
and has access to all members of that council to assist in solving
member problems.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
PennAg maintains a membership in most of the national organizations
which represent different sectors of agriculture including: American
Feed Industry Association, National Grain and Feed Association,
the Fertilizer Institute, American Crop Protection Association,
National Chicken Council, American Egg Board, American Aquaculture Association, and American Seed
Trade Association. Following national issues provides a headstart
in addressing issues which might impact Pennsylvania agriculture.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Employees of PennAg member companies, and their families, are
eligible for PennAg sponsored scholarships for training and education
beyond high school.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH ACADEMIA
PennAg has established working relationships with the College
of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State and at the veterinary school
at the University of Pennsylvania. Staff of those institutions
serve as advisers to PennAg's operating councils.
